As a heritage storyteller I work with you to find your unique stories and help you to share them with the right people in the right way at the right time. Whether that's interpretation for an exhibition, writing visitor guides, blogs, magazine articles, delivering visitor events or helping you to focus your marketing efforts through a simple strategy, I love to get to the heart of what you need and find solutions that work.

I specialise in working with museums, heritage sites, galleries and exhibition designers, bringing with me years of experience in copywriting, communications and event delivery as well as a passion for history and heritage.  So please get in touch for an initial no obligation chat to discover how I could help you start the next chapter of your story.

Hi, I'm Helen Shepherd.

Self-confessed history nerd. Sports nut. Crazy cat lady. Proud Yorkshire lass.

I have loved writing for as long as I can remember and am definitely, absolutely and without question going to write my novel one day. I'm a lifelong and long-suffering Sheffield Wednesday fan and I play football, as well as my knees will let me, with a lovely bunch of like-minded women who are also old enough to know better. I am mum to a very spoiled cat and auntie to an actual small human, so if we meet in person expect me to be covered in fur or chocolate. Or both. I can often be found poking around a country house, heritage site or a museum, or enjoying a long walk in the magnificent Peak District. At least, I can when I'm not under a blanket with a cat watching the footy.

I deliver my services through my own company, Elevate Communications Limited, sharing with my clients more than 25 years' experience in copywriting and communications. (You can see my CV below, if you're into that sort of thing). I am a specialist in museum and exhibition interpretation and love delving into mounds of material to understand the story that needs telling and crafting engaging narratives that have the power to educate, inspire and move an audience.
